If you want to really understand the destination you are visiting and to have a fun, it is always best to have a knowledgeable local guide to accompany you.
We are a group of licensed guides born and raised in Dubrovnik. Most of us spent our whole childhood wandering through the streets of Old Town and know every corner, proud of its rich heritage and eager to bring it all closer to you – our visitor.
Join us a walking tour of Dubrovnik Old Town! This tour starts at Pile Gate behind Amerling fountian, that you can easily rich by 10 minutes shuttle bus or taxi ride from the cruise port of Dubrovnik
Stradun – main street with stops at: Onofrio’s Fountain, Franciscan Monastery
Luza Square with stop at: Sponza Palace, Saint Blaise Church
Rector’s Palace
Dubrovnik Cathedral
Old Town port
The tour normally begins from Pile Gate – The western entrance to the Old Town (other start locations available). After a short self-introduction, the guide will show you on the map where Dubrovnik is, and why our location is so important, followed by a 1300-year journey that makes Dubrovnik’s history. No need to worry about your preexisting knowledge of the area, we will explain it all!
Upon learning who we are in Dubrovnik and about the rich history of our town, we will enter the Old Town from Pile Gate (or below through what used to be the protective moat) and take you around the city.
Franciscan Monastery with 700-year-old Pharmacy, Saint Claire’s nunnery, Great Onofrio’s Fountain, and Saint Saviors church are just some of the sights at the beginning of Old Town main Street – Stradun.
You will hear about the dynamic life of nuns and monks, orphans, priests cursing at young soccer players, and Saints protectors from the Plague in Iza Roka and Zlatariceva Street.
Walking down the main street of Stradun you will hear about merchants’ life -through medieval times and today, learn about the architecture of the houses and the destruction done by the Great Earthquake of 1667.
At the main Luža Square, you will get to know the Pillar of Shame, hear about relics of our Patron Saint – Saint Blaise in front of its church, and meet Maro And Baro, the 2 bronze soldiers that precisely hit our main tower clock (including the snooze alarm 3 minutes after each hour)
Strolling the Old Town port, you will learn about the port defenses and building of the most advanced ships of the 16ct. world. We will return to the city through the Fish Market gate and emerge in front of our glorious Assumption Cathedral to take a peek at the most religiously important painting of Our Lady of the Port as well as the most expensive painting on this side of Adriatic – Assumption of Virgin Mary done by Tiziano Vecelli, one of the most prominent 16ct. Renaissance painters and businessmen.
Politics always play a major role in every city’s life so we cannot omit the Rector’s Palace and all intrigues that went with it, which will take us to Green Market square (Gundulic Square) where ladies from the outskirts of Dubrovnik sell their fruits and vegetables every morning and swarms of pigeons wait to be fed at noon precisely every day. (do not come at noon if you do not like birds)
The tour ends at the bottom of the Jezuite baroque staircase, starring in many movie scenes (yes it was Walk of Shame Steps even though this is not GOT tour), where our guide will deliver final tips on what to visit (and when), what to do if more days in Dubrovnik, which restaurants are ok (and which are not) and answer all of your questions.
